When to Go
Like everywhere in central Punjab, Changa Manga has a season for comfort. From October to March the days are mild, the light is soft, and a full day outdoors is genuinely pleasant. April to June turns hot and dry — visit only early morning or late afternoon. July to September brings the monsoon: the forest at its greenest, but humid, and occasionally muddy underfoot.
- Best overall: November to February, weekday mornings
- Best light for photos: first two hours after opening, last two before closing
- Quietest: weekdays; busiest: weekends and public holidays
What to Pack
- Water — more than you think, especially outside winter
- Sun protection: hat, sunscreen, sunglasses
- Comfortable walking shoes — forest paths are mostly flat but natural
- Picnic blanket and snacks (or cash for food stalls when available)
- Binoculars for birds, camera for everything else
- Cash — entry, activities and parking are charged on site
- A small bag for your own litter — see our responsible tourism guide
With Kids
Changa Manga is a family classic for good reason: the train, the bridges and the boats form a natural adventure circuit. Keep children within sight on the suspension bridge, set clear rules about staying near the paths (this is a real forest, with real wildlife), and plan the lake for late afternoon when little legs are tired but the heat has eased.

Honest Answers to Common Questions
How far is it from Lahore?
74 km south-west — about 1.5–2 hours by car, roughly 10 km beyond Pattoki.
What does it cost?
We don't publish unverified numbers — charges for entry and activities change. Bring cash and confirm at the gate; fees for families remain the reason this stays one of the most affordable day trips around Lahore.
Can we bring our own food?
Yes, picnics are the heart of the experience — check current rules about cooking or BBQs at the entrance, and always take your litter back out with you.
Is it safe for families?
The developed park area is family-oriented and well visited. This is still a forest with wild animals, so supervise children, stay on main paths, and avoid feeding or approaching wildlife.
Is the train always running?
Not necessarily — ride availability varies with season, demand and maintenance. Treat it as a bonus if it runs, and confirm on arrival.
